Renardo Ovalle is the third generation of the family to produce coffee in the region of Huehuetenango. Today, the Ovalle family is one of the most renowned Guatemalan families in the world of specialty coffee. They invest a lot in the local people with important social projects such as a Kindergarten and school for workers’ children, balanced meals for all of the workers and higher wages than other farms of the country. We loved the youngsters at the Kindergarten when we visited them, a very well organized place that makes it possible for the parents to work on the farm, and the kids to get education and time to play.
We had the honor to meet Renardo and his family half a year ago, showing his beautiful La Bolsa & El Rincon farms, situated in a lush green gorge in Huehuetenango. There is an abundance of water supplied by the local stream which helps them to achieve their super clean coffee’s.
The highest parts of El Rincon have been separated to be sold as microlots, this particular lot was harvested at 1700m and got a score by Renardo’s wife Jacqueline of 87+ points.
