Flavour profile

Juicy and sweet! A layered coffee that starts with grapey acidity and sweet tropical lychee notes, then rounds things out with a milk chocolaty finish.

Agua de Nieve is grown in the Andes at a high altitude (1800—2000 meters) which lends it a complex acidity. The coffee is of the Typica, Caturra variety and fully washed, resulting in a beautifully layered cup. Grown with love and attention by a group of 20 farmers, each of whom process their own yield to sweet, balanced perfection.

The story – the farm

Roaster, and Keen co-founder, Bonne Postma travelled to the Agua de Nieve farm in Peru. He met with the farmers who created this fruity, Peruvian coffee and, not only did he fall in love with these beans, but he saw great potential in the farm itself.

This is a new direct trade project for Keen, and we’re so excited to support these farmers in growing to their full potential by paying them what they deserve.

We pay a premium for these beans. Twice as much as the current C-market (conventional coffee with prices that is based on the trading index) would. This makes a huge difference in the farmer’s standard of living. And, it gives them the opportunity to invest in their farms, improve quality, and expand their production capacity.

This project is the result of a collaboration with Lisanne Oonk. Lisanne, a trader from Cultivar, worked with the farmers to improve the quality of their coffees and bought their first harvests with her own savings. Her passion for this project is what made us confident to invest and work alongside her.

We’re so proud to play a role in Peru’s specialty coffee revolution.

What a fine coffee to start the day! Full bodied, somewhat fruity, with a modest but decidedly present kick. The cacao (sorry, no milk chocolate here ) tone develops more over time while the fruity notes disappear a bit, and I noticed a slightly peppery tone trying to surface in the end as well. It was nice to see how this coffee developed right until the last cups.
I ordered two different ones to try them this time because I really like to vary, but I may run back to this one after finishing those. After finishing my review, I already miss this coffee! Only one cup left, argh…
