Karie is the perfect coffee for anyone looking for a classic cup. It’s a thick and syrupy coffee, with notes of blue berries and grapefruit. Expect a mouthful of delicious sweet fudge, with a bright tonic aftertaste. A coffee that will surprise your palate.
Karie is a wet mill located near the town of Karatina. Karatina sits on the slopes of Mount Kenya, where the red, volcanic soils infuse the coffees grown there with all the organic, mineral goodness necessary for optimal production.
The Karie wet mill is one of 7 belonging to the Rutuma Amalgamated Cooperative (a merger of three different Nyeri-based Cooperatives.) Karie has 800 active, registered-members, who deliver coffees on a yearly basis.
Karie’s membership roster includes a group of promoter farmers who are trained in good agricultural, certification, financial literacy, and farm management practices (GAPS). These farmers teach GAPS to the other coop members, creating an immediate, positive impact on the quality of the coffee, and the environment. They teach their peers the impact of fertilization, pruning, and quality-driven harvesting techniques, changing the way that Karie coffee farmers approach their work, improving their product, and their lives.
We’re proud to promote this kind of community driven change.
