Setamo is sourced from the Bensa Setamo Washing Station in Sidamo, Ethiopia, where over 550 smallholder farmers cultivate heirloom varieties at 2100–2300 meters. The station plays a pivotal role in the community, providing access to markets, training, and rigorous quality standards that help farmers produce consistently exceptional coffee.

Cherries are carefully handpicked, floated to remove unripe or defective fruit, depulped, and fermented for 24–48 hours, depending on temperature. Naturally occurring microorganisms work to break down the mucilage, after which the coffee is washed and dried on raised beds to achieve a precise moisture content. This careful, traditional process highlights the clarity, floral elegance, and bright citrus character inherent in Sidamo heirlooms.

Setamo reflects the vision and dedication of Tariku Kare Banata, who rose from working at a washing station to owning and managing his own station and export company. Tariku’s commitment to social responsibility supports employment, women’s work opportunities, education, and farmer training programs, ensuring that the coffee is not only remarkable in the cup but also impactful for the community behind it.
