Who doesn’t know Ethiopia’s most liked coffee district ‘Yirgacheffe’? A region that benefits exceptional coffee growing conditions. Think of altitudes up to 2,200 meters, fertile soils, and consistent rainfall. These factors, combined with traditional farming practices put villages such as ‘Konga’ on the map for us specialty coffee lovers. The local community intentionally built a school next to the washing station so that students would grow up surrounded by coffee production. As a result, many of the children become passionate about coffee, developing a deep connection to the industry as they leave school.
At 2,050 meters, the Wote washing station, managed by Wete Ambela Coffee Export PLC, plays a vital role in the region’s coffee production. Approximately 200 farmers deliver handpicked heirloom-variety cherries, which are carefully processed as a washed coffee. After pulping, the beans are soaked for 48 hours and dried on raised African beds for 18 to 21 days.
